He completed specialized training through the prestigious Maryland Spinal Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship and the NuVasive Luiz Pimenta Fellowship, where he studied advanced spinal techniques before their widespread adoption in the United States. Today, he uses this knowledge to deliver cutting-edge care to patients from across the U.S. and Canada.
Dr. Vigna’s path to medicine began after a successful start in finance. Inspired by the medical professionals who cared for his father during a serious illness, he shifted careers to follow in the footsteps of his physician parents. He earned his medical degree and a Master of Public Health from Tulane University, later completing his orthopedic residency at SUNY Health and Science Center at Brooklyn.

With over 15 years of experience in both academic and private practice settings, Dr. Sweitzer is highly regarded for his expertise in arthroscopic procedures, minimally invasive surgical techniques, and advanced joint replacement surgeries.
Dr. Sweitzer has a special focus on knee and shoulder injuries, including ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, cartilage restoration, and shoulder instability. He is among a select group of surgeons in Southwest Florida performing all-inside ACL reconstruction using quadriceps autograft, a less-invasive, high-performance option for athletes and active individuals.
